  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
  2. Gather your supplies: medication vial, syringe, alcohol swab, and a new sterile needle (if not pre-attached).
  3. Choose an injection site. Recommended areas include the abdomen, thigh, the back of the upper arm, buttocks.
  4. Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and let it dry completely.

Important Information

– Always follow the exact dosing and injection instructions provided by your medical provider.

– Use a new sterile needle and syringe for every injection.

– Never share your medication or injection supplies with anyone.

– Subcutaneous injections deliver medication into the fatty tissue just beneath the skin for slow, steady absorption.

– Do not inject into bruised, scarred, swollen, or irritated skin.

Additional Notes

– Store your medication as directed (room temperature or refrigerated).

– If refrigerated, allow the vial to warm to room temperature before injecting.

– If you experience redness, swelling, or persistent pain at the injection site, rotate sites and contact your provider if it continues.

– Message your provider through the Patient Portal if you have questions about technique or dosing.

Administer your intramuscular injection exactly as prescribed by your medical provider for safe and effective delivery.

Step by Step Instructions:

1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.

2. Gather your supplies: medication vial, syringe, alcohol swab, and a new sterile needle (typically 1–1.5 inches long).

3. Choose your injection site. Common areas include the upper outer quadrant of the buttock (glute), the side of the thigh (vastus lateralis), or the deltoid muscle in the upper arm — only use the arm if instructed by your provider.

4. Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and let it dry completely.

5. If using a new vial, remove the cap and wipe the rubber top with an alcohol swab.

6. Pull back the syringe plunger to draw in air equal to your prescribed dose.

7. Insert the needle into the vial and push the air in.

8. Invert the vial and syringe together, keeping the needle tip in the liquid.

9. Slowly pull back the plunger to draw your prescribed dose.

10. Check for air bubbles. If any are present, gently tap the syringe and push the air out.

11. Double-check that you have the correct dose in the syringe.

12. Hold the syringe like a dart and position it at a **90° angle** to the skin.

13. Insert the needle into the muscle with a smooth, quick motion.

14. Once the needle is fully inserted, pull back slightly on the plunger to check for blood (aspiration).

15. If you see blood, remove the needle immediately, discard the syringe, and start over with a new syringe and a different injection site.

16. If no blood appears, push the plunger slowly and steadily to inject the medication.

17. Remove the needle quickly and apply gentle pressure with a clean cotton ball or gauze.

18. Dispose of the needle and syringe right away in a sharps container.

19. Gently massage the injection site for 10–15 seconds (unless your provider has advised against it).

20. Rotate injection sites with each dose to prevent soreness or irritation.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember — unless it’s close to the time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medication or double the dose to make up for what you missed. Simply resume your normal routine with the next scheduled dose.

Steps

  1. If you’ve missed more than one dose or are unsure what to do, message your medical provider through the Patient Portal for personalized guidance.
  2. Make a quick note of the missed dose (including the date and time) so your provider has a complete record if any adjustments are needed.
  3. To message your medical provider:
    • Go to the Home page in your Patient Portal.
    • Locate your medication under My Defy Age Rx Journey.
    • Click the arrow pointing right next to your medication.
    • Select Message Medical Provider.

Important Information

  • Never take an extra or larger dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Consistency with your dosing schedule helps achieve the best treatment results.
  • Your provider can advise whether any adjustments to your dose or schedule are needed based on your specific treatment plan.
  • Missing an occasional dose is common and usually not harmful, but contact your provider if you miss doses frequently.

Best Practices for Dose Adjustments

Never increase or decrease your dose on your own. Your prescribed dosage is based on your individual health history, treatment goals, and response to therapy. Any changes should only be made under the guidance of your medical provider to ensure safety and optimal results.

Steps to Request a Dose Adjustment

  1. If you feel your current dose isn’t meeting your goals or you’re experiencing side effects, message your medical provider through the DefyAgeRx Portal.
  2. To message your medical provider:
    • Go to the Home page in your Patient Portal.
    • Locate your medication
    • Click the arrow pointing right next to your medication.
    • Select Message Medical Provider.
  3. Provide details about your experience (e.g., benefits, side effects, or progress). Your provider will review your chart and recommend any appropriate changes.

Important Information

  • Always wait for your provider’s confirmation before making any changes to your dose.
  • Gradual adjustments (titration) are typically recommended for safety and better tolerance.
  • Unapproved changes may reduce effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects.
  • Your provider may suggest lab work or follow-up visits before approving a dose change.
